Quote for the week
“Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit. The sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other.”
- Pope Francis

And I’m now a superfan
Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang called JD Vance a ‘Pope killer’ on the View, sending shock waves of laughter through those of us who need it. It was one of those jokes told in poor taste that really needed to be said. The right is outraged, despite having trashed a pope they’ve called woke for years. Francis’s sin? Living the gospel of Jesus, the most woke savior in history. Thank you, Bowen!
The Weekly Readlines April 26
From the Editor’s Desk: Thank you to everyone who took the survey about the Readlines. All of the respondents wanted them to keep coming (really, they did), so here they are!
On the news front: another week, another all-you-can-eat horror show from a regime determined to make America a place to escape from. So far they’re succeeding spectacularly. – Mark

Labors of love
This is an event I'm arranging for June, for a book client whose schizophrenic daughter stopped writing when she was diagnosed at 28. I'm not being paid -- not everything is about the money, which may be shocking in the world we're living in.
UPDATE: I was able to get Shea Dibley, the Vice President of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Hunterdon to speak at the event. It’s shaping up to be a good one.
April showers bring May workshops
May 3 is just around the corner! It’s a busy workshop month for me, kicking off with Fiction Writing Essentials in Bristol, PA. Support your local library!
It’s no mystery
The Mystery Writers of America - New York chapter is making more of an effort this year to offer local group get-togethers. We don’t all live in the Greatest City in the World! This is a group of us yesterday in Raritan, NJ, talking shop. One big surprise: one of the people who came said, “Are you the Mark McNease who runs the autobiographical writing workshops?” I’m like, wow, someone’s heard of me. Can overwhelming success be far behind?
